Our managing editor
J.R. Grimes, founder and managing editor of The Ibesian, is a humanist scholar whose career bridges art, archaeology, museums, and community empowerment. Diagnosed as autistic later in life, Grimes credits his distinct cognitive style—defined by exceptional pattern recognition, intuitive curiosity, and unconventional thinking—as the foundation of his insights into creativity and diversity.
Grimes's lifelong journey began as a teenager cataloging artifacts in a museum basement, sparking a passion for understanding human culture and history. As an archaeological researcher, he uncovered pivotal insights into the lives of the earliest inhabitants of the Americas. His leadership roles included serving as Deputy Director of the Peabody Essex Museum, where he oversaw groundbreaking gallery expansions and exhibitions, and as Director of the Institute of American Indian Arts Museum, where he championed contemporary Native American art and fostered cross-cultural dialogue.
Beyond museums, Grimes has been a staunch advocate for community empowerment. As Vice President of the Cook Inlet Tribal Council, he supported Alaska Native and American Indian communities. His decade-long service on the Board of Pact, Inc. further demonstrated his dedication to global initiatives that address poverty and social challenges.
At The Ibesian, Grimes brings his unique perspective to exploring the vast diversity and universality of intelligence. Through this groundbreaking digital magazine, he invites readers to consider the boundless potential of human creativity and collaboration, forging connections across disciplines, cultures, and the evolving relationship between humanity and technology.
